Agencies continue Irma response

Federal agencies are continuing their response to Hurricane Irma, which struck Florida on Sunday after sweeping through the Caribbean. Nearly 22,ooo federal personnel are working to prepare for and respond to Hurricane Irma.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has staged eight urban search and rescue task forces, two hazardous equipment push packages, one Incident Support Team in Florida. FEMA Incident Management Assistance Teams and additional search and rescue task forces are also pre-positioned in surrounding states.

The Department of Defense (DoD) is also heavily involved in the Irma response, with close to 10,ooo Army personnel supporting the response, as well as personnel from the sister services.
