Intel agencies investigate election cyber-attacks

Several U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies are investigating possible cyber-attacks aimed at November’s presidential election. While the agencies do not have conclusive proof that Russia is involved in a specific plot, officials from the FBI, CIA, National Security Agency (NSA), and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are concerned.

One official said that “even the hint of something impacting the security of our election system would be of significant concern… It’s the key to our democracy, that people have confidence in the election system.”

Officials believe the cyber-attacks are meant to sow public distrust in the upcoming election and in U.S. political institutions, not influence the outcome of the election.
