This article examines military and health care provider preparedness in the event of a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or high-yield explosive (CBRNE) attack. While the level of preparedness is difficult to accurately gauge, the level of preparedness can be assessed by reviewing historical accounts, changes in health care components since 9/11, educational measures necessary to prepare for a CBRNE event, and the role of leadership in emergency response.
