National Preparedness Month begins

National Preparedness Month begins

This week marked the beginning of National Preparedness Month, and U.S. government agencies are encouraging their personnel and all other Americans to be prepared at all times to respond quickly to disasters and emergencies.

According to Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work, “Preparedness is the shared responsibility of our entire nation.” Work also noted that the preparedness campaign “contributes to fostering a culture of preparedness and to strengthening our resilience.”

The Department of Defense and other agencies are emphasizing crisis and disaster awareness, emergency communication planning, and developing family plans for floods, wildfires, hurricanes, and other emergency situations.

The month will end with America’s PrepareAthon! Day on September 30.
