Kelly speaks on U.S. border security

Earlier this week Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John F. Kelly spoke before the House Committee on Homeland Security. During the hearing, Kelly briefed those present on U.S. border security.

In his opening remarks, Kelly spoke of his service to the nation, as well as his experience working with other government agencies and the private sector, and how these opportunities prepared him for “leading large, complex, and diverse mission-focused organizations while under great pressure to produce results.”

Kelly then moved on to President Trump’s recent executive orders aimed at strengthening U.S. national security. According to Kelly, the executive orders are aimed at preventing illegal immigration, trafficking in drugs and humans, and terrorism, while also enforcing federal immigration laws withing the U.S. and protecting American’s from those who would commit acts of terrorism.

Kelly also discussed his goal to expand interagency cooperation between DHS and other U.S. government entities, as well as cooperation with partner nations, specifically Canada and Mexico.
