Changes coming to Defense Intelligence Agency

The director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) recently spoke at the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation, sharing his vision for changes and capacity building within DIA.

Army Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn spoke about reshaping defense analysis, increasing partnerships, offsetting risk, preventing strategic surprise, and retaining U.S. competitive advantage. Flynn also spoke about integrating the entire agency, saying “This is not a marginal adjustment for DIA. This is a major adjustment for national security.”

Flynn also touched on professional development of the workforce, focusing on civilians. According to Flynn, the civilian side of the workforce has not had the same opportunities as their military counterparts. Professional development, especially leader development, of the civilian workforce is one of Flynn’s top priorities.

Flynn also emphasized the value of capacity building within DIA and the intelligence community as a whole, and stressed the importance of DIA in U.S. national defense.
