DoD, DHS, others discuss improved cooperation

On February 25, senior leaders from the Departments of Defense (DoD) and Homeland Security (DHS) met with representatives from the Council of Governors to discuss ways in which the two departments can better cooperate and work together.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Deputy Defense Secretary Ash Carter, and the council leaders met at the Pentagon, where Napolitano spoke to the governors about improving critical infrastructure cybersecurity and resiliency. The council and senior leaders discussed programming and budgetary proposals affecting the National Guard, as well as other trends affecting the defense budget. The group also reviewed the response to Hurricane Sandy.

The Council of Governors was formed as a result of Executive Order 13528, which was signed by President Barack Obama in 2010, and is designed to strengthen the relationships between DoD, DHS, and the states and territories.
