EPREP guides interagency humanitarian action in Pacific

In December, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs released the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan, or the EPREP. The EPREP is designed to guide interagency humanitarian action in the Pacific, and consolidates information on the humanitarian architecture, tools, and services of the Pacific Humanitarian Team.

The objective of the EPREP is to define the coordination mechanisms of the Pacific Humanitarian Team and to prepare humanitarian stakeholders, including the United States Agency for International Development and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to provide more efficient and effective support to Pacific Island governments before, during, and after an emergency response.

The EPREP outlines the mechanisms through which Pacific Humanitarian Team members can link to government structures to ensure the most effective and efficient means of coordination and information sharing during an emergency. The EPREP also calls for the completion of detailed joint interagency sector assessments, which should take place within one month following an emergency.
