This article explains why a coherent economic development strategy is necessary during military stability operations. It uses various historical examples to argue that stability operations benefit from this development focus, and the implementation of such a strategy is an effective way to reach the end goal: a stable, self-sufficient state. The article also contains various recommendations for the components of this strategy.
