The International Stability Operations Association will present on December 2, 2020, a webinar on the future of Afghanistan and the role of Afghan women promoting lasting change to their Nation, through the lens of Women, Peace and Security imperatives. “Security Through Education: The Role of the American University of Afghanistan in Building Stability and Peace in Afghanistan” will take place from 9:00 – 10:30 am Eastern. The event will be moderated by Ms. Leslie Schweitzer, with keynote speaker General (Ret.) John W. Nicholson, Jr.
Leslie Schweitzer is the Founder and Chair of the Friends of the American University of Afghanistan, and she serves on the Board of Trustees of both the American University of Afghanistan and the CGSC Foundation. Schweitzer’s career in international business and development spans over four decades. She pioneered American business in China in the 70’s, and was instrumental in constructing the International Center for Afghan Women’s Economic Development. Schweitzer received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree from the American University of Afghanistan.
General John W. Nicholson, Jr., USA (Retired), is a retired United States Army four-star general whose service to our Nation spanned 36 years. He last commanded all U.S. Forces and the 41 Nation NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, distinguishing himself as one of America’s most combat seasoned four-star generals with over six years in combat. As an infantry officer in the U.S. Army, General Nicholson commanded at all levels from company command in the 75th Ranger Regiment to command of the 82nd Airborne Division and NATO’s Allied Land Command. The majority of his time as a general officer was spent in joint, interagency and multinational roles, achieving success in conditions of high complexity and risk.
