Indo-Asian partners take part in disaster response exercise

On March 14, joint, interagency, and multinational sustainment experts gathered in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for Angkor Opening 2016. Angkor Opening is a weeklong tabletop exercise designed to build partnerships, interoperability, and readiness in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief port opening operations.

Army Major General Edward F. Dorman III, commander of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command, described Angkor Opening 2016 as an “important exercise” that “provides the perfect venue and atmosphere for us to join together to improve our collective readiness when it comes to [humanitarian assistance and disaster relief] response efforts.” Dorman also said that the exercise, and others like it, provided those involved an opportunity to lay the foundation for future exchanges and partnerships with joint, interagency, and multinational partners.

The exercise was hosted by the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and sponsored by the U.S. Army’s 8th Theater Sustainment Command and the Cambodian National Committee for Maritime Safety.
