U.S. agencies support relief in Haiti

Over 10,000 federal employees from various agencies have been deployed to aid the areas effected by Hurricane Matthew. U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Department of Defense (DoD), and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel have also been deployed to Haiti, which has been hardt hit by the storm. An estimated 1.4 million Haitian citizens are in need following Hurricane Matthew.

USAID activated a regional Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) near Haiti prior to the storm. DART personnel provided emergency relief supplies, including 40,000 blankets, 20,000 kitchen sets, 20,000 hygiene kits, and 3,500 rolls of plastic sheeting. Food assistance, cash vouchers, and other aid has also been supplied through USAID. USAID efforts have been aided DoD through logistical support.

DoD has also provided other aid to Haiti, delivering over 90 tons of relief supplies over the weekend. DHS is providing aid to Haiti through the Coast Guard.
