State Department releases 2019 Country Reports on Terrorism

Earlier this year, the Department of State released their Country Reports on Terrorism for 2019. The Country Reports on Terrorism are published annually, and cover developments in countries in which acts of terrorism occurred, countries that are state sponsors of terrorism, and countries determined by the Secretary to be of particular interest in the global war on terror.

The 2019 report cites several successful efforts to defeat and degrade international terrorist organizations, including a military operation that resulted in the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed “caliph” of ISIS. However, Ambassador Nathan A. Sales, Coordinator for Counterterrorism, notes in his foreword that “dangerous terrorist threats persisted around the world.”

The report also includes information about interagency efforts to repatriate citizens to their home countries, building partner nations’ capabilities to counter terrorism, and other efforts undertaken by the United States to strengthen U.S. national security and protect allies.
