2011. “Worth Noting – Professional Diplomatic Education and Training.” InterAgency Journal Vol. 2, no. 2 (Summer): 70-71. http://thesimonscenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IAJ-2-2-pg70-71.pdf (accessed 23 August 2011).

A section from the InterAgency Journal discussing the findings of a study by the American Academy of Diplomacy and the Stimson Center entitled Forging a 21st-Century Diplomatic Service for the United States through Professional Education and Training. The study addresses the diplomacy/defense imbalance, and recommends a dramatic increase in funding and focus on the development of “smart power” initiatives. The study argues that more education and training, as well as increased hiring, is needed to ensure a successful future for the US Foreign Service and the diplomatic corps.
