CCO hosts dialogue on combating crime-terror pipelines

The U.S. Department of State recently hosted a dialogue on combating crime-terror pipelines. The event was hosted at the Center for Complex Operations in partnership with National Defense University and the Departments of State and Defense on June 25 and 26.

Maria Otero, Undersecretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights, was the keynote speaker, and participants included representatives from the United States, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

Otero spoke about the importance of collaboration within and between governments as well as partnerships formed with nongovernment organizations. Otero also spoke about the 2011 National Security Strategy to Combat Transnational Organized Crime, which called on the U.S. government and its international partners to work together to combat criminal and terrorist networks.
