CISA, FBI warn of China-affiliated hackers

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a joint alert regarding cyber threats to government systems on Monday, September 14.

According to the alert, CISA has “consistently observed Chinese Ministry of State Security-affiliated cyber threat actors using publicly available information sources and common, well-known tactics, techniques, and procedures to target U.S. government agencies.”

In the alert, CISA notes that “In some cases, cyber threat actors have used the same vulnerabilities to compromise multiple organizations across many sectors.” As a result, CISA and the FBI recommend organizations prioritize patching the vulnerabilities routinely exploited by cyber actors affiliated with China’ Ministry of State Security.
