DHS addresses southwest border security
Last week Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson released a statement on U.S. southwest border security. Johnson’s statement came after criticism from lawmakers about the increase in illegal immigration at the southwest border.
In his statement, Johnson said “I have told our border security and immigration enforcement personnel that we must keep pace with this increase.” He went on to say that there has been a marked increase in individuals detained for trying to enter the country illegally, and that he had authorized Immigration and Customs Enforcement to acquire additional detention space.
Johnson stressed the importance of public safety and border security, and encouraged migrants and their families to pursue legal entry into the United States.
