DHS releases 2016 statistics

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released their end of year statistics for fiscal year 2016. These statistics reflect the department’s immigration enforcement efforts prioritizing convicted criminals and threats to public safety, border security, and national security. The report includes data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In his remarks, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson reaffirmed DHS’s commitment, saying “We continued to strengthen the federal government’s decades-long investment in border security.” Johnson went on to review the progress made by DHS in recent years, and encouraged the next administration to continue publishing the statistics report “to continue to enhance the transparency of DHS’s immigration enforcement efforts.”

The report also states that Customs and Border Protection is working closely to support federal interagency efforts to manage the arrival of unaccompanied children and family units from Central America.
