EUCOM commander speaks at CVE conference
On April 26, General Curtis M. Scaparrotti, commander of U.S. European Command (EUCOM) hosted top military officials from the U.S. and Europe during a conference where they discussed efforts to counter violent extremism (CVE). In his remarks, Scaparrotti said that “Terrorism is a transregional problem and a clear and present danger to us all. It is only with the dedication and resolve of Allies and partners that we can confront and defeat this transregional threat.”
The conference focused on understanding the CVE threat, strengthening partnerships, information sharing, and enhancing the military network. Other topics of the conference included whole-of-government efforts to defeat terror and better connectivity the military network, European intelligence, and law enforcement agencies. “No nation stands alone and no nation is immune to the threat of violence posed by terror,” said Scaparrotti.
During the conference, Scaparrotti spoke about the importance of sharing information, saying it was imperative to improve the speed at which data is shared, as information sharing helps “connect the dots” and prevent terrorist attacks.
