Florence response cooperation “outstanding”

The response to Hurricane Florence is underway, and according to Air Force General Terrence J. O’Shaughnessey cooperation between local, state, and federal entities has been “outstanding.”

Speaking from the North Carolina operations center, O’Shaughnessey praised the efforts of the Department of Defense (DoD), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and other responders, saying that their cooperation and communication has been incredibly strong. Earlier, O’Shaughnessey affirmed U.S. Northern Command’s support to FEMA, saying “We are moving forward under our own authorities to be able to respond as soon as a request is made.”

More than 13,000 DoD personnel have been assigned to support hurricane relief efforts, including both active duty and National Guard personnel, as well as personnel from the Army Corps of Engineers and Defense Logistics Agency. D0D also provided assets for air and ground transportation and search and rescue.
