Hurricane response ongoing in Puerto Rico, Caribbean

The U.S. response to Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean continues after the storms devastated the area last month. Over 12,000 responders from U.S. federal agencies are involved in response efforts, and U.S. personnel have been working closely with partners from the Commonwealth.

Department of Defense (DoD) personnel continue to support Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) efforts to clear roads, deliver generator fuel to hospitals, and distribute food, water, and supplies. DoD personnel are also helping to reestablish essential services, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority and representatives from U.S. Department of Energy to restore power.

The U.S. Agency for International Development is also involved in providing humanitarian relief to those affected, and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol has been making targeted flights to assess the well-being of survivors.
