Preparations underway for Angel Thunder ‘14

Preparations are already underway for the 2014 Angel Thunder exercise that will be conducted from May 4 to May 17. Angel Thunder is a joint service, multinational, interagency combat search and rescue exercise designed to provide training for personnel recovery assets using a variety of scenarios to simulate deployment conditions and contingencies. The first Angel Thunder exercise was held in 2006.

Earlier this month, international planners joined U.S. planners from the Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, Arizona National Guard, Joint Personnel Recovery Agency, and a variety of other U.S. departments and agencies. The 200+ members of the Angel Thunder Professional Control Force conducted a three-day planning conference during which participants planned and developed the exercise, ensuring that Angel Thunder ’14 would fully exercise each unit, nation, and agencies’ capabilities and objectives.

The May 2014 Angel Thunder exercise will train more than 2,000 joint, total force, coalition and interagency partners throughout Arizona and over the California coast. Last year, 3,017 joint, total force, coalition and interagency partners participated in Angel Thunder, which included 30 exercise scenarios.
