Agencies, communities to take part in “PrepareAthon!”

This month, U.S. agencies, communities, and individuals are gearing up for “America’s PrepareAthon!”. The campaign is an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities to prepare for specific hazards through drills, group discussions, and exercises. Participating government agencies include the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Defense.

“America’s PrepareAthon!” is intended to enhance national preparedness by increasing the number of individuals who understand which disasters could happen in their community, know what to do to be safe and mitigate damage, take action to increase their preparedness, and participate in community resilience planning. The event revolves around six specific hazards – earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and winter storms.

“America’s PrepareAthon!” is held twice a year, and the spring National PrepareAthon! Day will be on April 30, 2015.
