Agencies partner on Super Bowl 51 security
Multiple local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies came together Sunday for Super Bowl 51. The Department of Defense (DoD) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also partnered with law enforcement to secure the big event.
The FBI’s primary role in security planning was to provide intelligence about possible terror threats. Prior to Super Bowl Sunday, Perrye Turner, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Houston Division, spoke about the law enforcement partnership, saying “We’ve been working for several years with our partners to make sure appropriate security is in place. We’re going to do everything in our power to make sure it’s a safe event.” According to FBI assistant special agent-in-charge Mark Webster FBI resources included surveillance specialists, cybersquads, intelligence analysts, and SWAT teams.
DoD was also included in the day’s festivities, including a flyover by U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
