Former CGSC Dean presents on climate change at Park University
As part of the Simons Center’s Distinguished Speakers Program, the Simons Center in partnership with Park University sponsored a presentation by U.S. Army Brig. Gen. (Ret.) W. Chris King, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE, on Nov. 13 to a full-house audience at Alumni Hall on the Park University main campus in Parkville, Missouri.
King’s presentation was entitled, “Climate Change: A Critical National Security Assessment and Strategic Whole of Government Challenge.” King, the former CGSC dean of academics, is a recognized expert in the field of environmental security having authored numerous publications and lectured at more than 50 professional conferences to include the Copenhagen climate summit in 2009 and at Oxford University.
King provided the audience with statistical data on water usage, temperature change, greenhouse gases, and population trends and discussed the implications and challenges to national security and world instability that environmental changes pose.
The Simons Center Distinguished Speaker Series is designed to expose university and civic organization audiences to the expertise of senior U.S. Government officials and allows for a sharing of scholarship in an outreach setting.
