This article describes U.S. Army North’s 2006 Golden Guardian exercise, which dealt with disaster response and emergency preparedness and trained Army North personnel in the Defense Support to Civil Authorities mission. Golden Guardian’s premise was responding to a massive earthquake along the San Andreas fault in California, and had subsequently overwhelmed local emergency authorities.
