Continued assistance provided to Nepal

The U.S. continues to provide assistance in disaster relief efforts in Nepal after multiple earthquakes. The 7.8 earthquake and 7.3 magnitude aftershock have claimed over 8,000 lives and injured nearly 18,000 people.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM), and many other U.S. agencies and organizations have been coordinating efforts to bring relief to the area. So far, USAID and the Department of Defense have promised over $32 million in aid funding, and over 174,000 pounds of emergency relief supplies have been delivered since relief efforts began.

USAID’s Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) continues with search and rescues efforts and coordinates with the U.S. military to provide other humanitarian aid and disaster relief. The U.S. relief to Nepal is a collaborative effort between the U.S., Nepalese, and other national governments and militaries.
