Panel Discussion on Cultural and Soft Power Influences in Africa – Sept. 25

The CGSC Cultural and Area Studies Office (CASO), jointly with the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, The Keough School of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame, and the Defense Intelligence Agency, presents a panel discussion entitled “Cultural and ‘Soft Power’ ‘Influences’ of China, Russia and France in Africa” on Sept. 25 from 1-3 p.m., in the Arnold Conference Room, Lewis and Clark Center, Fort Leavenworth.

CGSC Deputy Commandant Brig. Gen. Stephen J. Maranian will provide opening remarks. The panel members are:

Ambassador David H. Shinn, who is an American diplomat and Adjunct Professor at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of
International Affairs, will focus on “China/Russia versus the U.S. in Africa.”

Dr. Joshua Eisenman, Associate Professor at The Keough School of Global Affairs, The University of Notre Dame will discuss “China’s ‘soft’ political outreach in Africa including party-to-party relations, educational, youth and cultural ties.”

Mr. Roderic C. Jackson, Chair for Defense Intelligence Studies, Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), CGSC will tackle the aspects of “France in Africa.”
