Col. Arthur D. Simons Center announces winners of the 2010 Faculty Writing Competition

Winners of the 2010 CGSC Faculty Writing Contest:

First Place: Major Leonard Lira, Department of Joint, Interagency and Multinational Operations.
“Searching for the Philosopher’s Stone: An Integrative Approach to the Problems in the Interagency Process”

Second Place: James Cricks, Department of Joint Interagency and Multinational Operations.
“Are Military Planning Problems Really Two Sided?”

Third Place: William Davis, Department of Joint, Interagency and Multinational Operations.
“ Educating Interagency Perceptions: Looking Towards Sense of Community Theory to Increase the Efficacy of the Whole of Government”

Honorable Mention: Daniel Cox, School of Advanced Military Studies.
“Applying an Entrepreneurial Expeditionary Economics Solution to the Somalia Piracy Problem”

The Col. Arthur D. Simons Center Faculty Writing Competition is an annual event inviting faculty members of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College to submit original papers examining aspects of interagency cooperation, coordination, or collaboration at the operational and tactical levels of conflict.  Its purpose is to foster and encourage scholarship in interagency affairs that enhances education and discourse at the College; facilitating broader and more effective cooperation within the U.S. government at the level of application; and showcase the intellectual capital of the College’s faculty. Winning authors receive $250 for first place, $200 for second place, $150 for third place and $100 for honorable mention.  Papers are also considered for publication by the Simons Center through the CGSC Foundation Press.
